Dear Friends,
This February marks three months since we’ve been raising funds for our Yellow School Bus Project via GlobalGiving. In those three months, we have collected over $8,000 from over 115 donors. We have also partnered with communications experts at FocalChange (www.focalchange.org) to help us increase our visibility and strengthen our existing communications infrastructure. Moreover, we have continued to meet with local partners in Morocco who have mobilized with us for over a year to bring to life our school bus pilot project. Our partners include local authorities and representatives, the Moroccan Ministry of Education, and the local Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
One of the most active members of the PTA a man in his 40s named Abdelhay (pictured below). He comes from a poor family in the Asseghmo village of the Ghessate District in Morocco. When he finished primary school in the 1980s, he was excited to move up to secondary school. However, Abdelhay lived too far away from the school, and with no transportation available to him at the time, he was forced to drop out of school at a young age.
This is exactly why Abdelhay is a great supporter of our Yellow School Bus Project. He believes greatly in the power of education and wants future generations, including his own children, to have the opportunities that he never had.
Abdelhay first became interested in Centre Imdghass d'Étude de Formation et de Développement (CIFD) when he saw the impact of our educational projects in his region. Abdelhay eventually pledged to become a more active member of the PTA that he was a part of to help improve the living conditions of his community. Since then, he has become a very enthusiastic and engaged leader of the PTA, currently serving as the PTA President. Abdelhay's great efforts and dedication are helping to mobilize the the Ghessate region as they prepare to implement the pilot phase of the Yellow School Bus Project when it is funded.
Abdelhay holds the school bus project very close to his heart. He believes that bringing access to education will provide a much-needed chance for growth and development in his remote village. For over a year now, he has been in constant contact with the CIFD team about the school bus project and is thankful to all of the donors and supporters of the project who are working to make a school bus transit system in the High Atlas Mountains a reality. Abdelhay looks forward to the day that the Yellow School Bus project is funded and the pilot phase is able to start, making sure that no more children have to stop their education due to the lack of transportation like he did.
We join Abdelhay in thanking each and every one of you from the bottoms of our hearts for helping us bring education to every single child in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains.
If you would like to support us again, one great day to do this will be Wednesday, March 16. On this Bonus Day, all donations made between 9am and midnight will be eligible for a pro-rated match from GlobalGiving.
Thank you again for your support and please feel free to contact us with any questions, comments, and ideas.
Gratefully yours,
Hafida Aguozi
