We are thrilled to announce the commencement of the second year of our adult literacy classes in early March. This year, we will welcome 5 mothers in Level 1 and 5 in Level 2.
For level 1, at the end of the year, they will be accredited with a certification equivalent to the first grade of primary school, and for level 2, upon completion of this year's process, they will be accredited with a certificate equivalent to the second and third grades of primary school.
This program is a collaboration with CONALFA (National Literacy Committee of Guatemala). While CONALFA pays the teacher's stipend, CasaSito is responsible for providing the space, covering the transportation costs, snacks, and school supplies for the students.
We are delighted that Melvin Benjamín Jalal Calel, our University scholar, will return as the teacher. Reflecting on his experience, Melvin shares, "Being a literacy teacher was a rewarding experience seeing the direct impact of helping others acquire reading and writing skills, especially mothers, besides providing an income for me and my family."
One of the mothers said to us at last year's graduation, "I love coming to classes, not only do I learn a lot, but it also gives me a reason to dress up and get out of my house and my routine."
