Appeal to Donors: Transforming Hunger Relief into

By Nilza C. Baptista | Project Manager

Dear Valued Supporters,

Imagine having to survive on just three meals a week, eating only once a day, and enduring four long days between each meal. This is the harsh reality faced by the beneficiaries of the Communitarian Kitchen.

Since 2020, Angola Hunger Relief has supported the Communitarian Kitchen in Huambo, providing 100,000 meals to vulnerable individuals. Despite our efforts, the need for a sustainable, long-term solution has become evident, particularly in light of the worsening conditions due to COVID-19 and economic challenges.

The Situation:
Huambo Province:More than 40% of children live in extreme poverty, with many facing severe malnutrition and a lack of educational opportunities.

Community Kitchen:
Serving the elderly and children, it now only operates three times a week due to reduced donations, impacting 150 individuals who rely on these meals.

Our Findings:

Health and Nutrition: Many elderly individuals and children suffer from malnutrition and health issues due to inadequate access to nutritious food and medical care.

Education and Empowerment: Discontinued educational programs and limited resources have marginalized these vulnerable groups.

Operational Challenges:

The community kitchen faces significant hygiene, sanitation, and resource constraints, impacting its ability to function effectively.

Our Vision: Sustainable Change Through Empowerment and Innovation

To move from short-term relief to sustainable development, we propose an ambitious plan to establish a sustainable pig farm. This initiative aims to empower the community, generate income, and provide a stable food source. Here's our comprehensive action plan:

1. Community Empowerment:
- Train community members in meal planning, preparation, and food safety.
- Develop leadership programs to cultivate capable leaders within the community.

2. Nutritional and Educational Support:
- Implement nutrition programs to provide balanced meals.
- Re-establish educational programs and workshops for children and community members.

3. Sustainable Solutions:
Pig Farming Initiative: Conduct feasibility studies, secure resources, and implement a sustainable pig farming model. This will generate income and provide a reliable food source.

4. Food Rescue and Waste Reduction:
- Develop a food rescue program to collect surplus food and distribute it to needy people.
- Raise awareness about food waste as a solution to hunger.

5. Partnerships and Expansion:
- Secure partnerships with NGOs, businesses, and government agencies to enhance resources and support.
- Expand the reach of our services to accommodate more beneficiaries.

Immediate Needs and Call for Support:

To achieve these goals, we need your generous support. Your donations will enable us to:
- Establish the pig farm and other sustainable initiatives.
- Provide immediate nutritional and medical assistance.
- Reintroduce and enhance educational programs.

Your Impact:

By contributing to Angola Hunger Relief, you will be instrumental in transforming lives in Huambo Province. Together, we can move beyond providing meals to creating sustainable, long-term solutions that address the root causes of poverty and hunger.
