With the 'A to Z of Teaching STEM' project, Teach For Bulgaria will develop a curriculum for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics education in Bulgarian schools, providing ready-to-use learning materials and equipping over 500 teachers with the knowledge and pedagogical approaches to deliver engaging and impactful STEM lessons. /// All donations made by 15 November 2025 will be matched by EBRD via its Community Initiative, subject to all necessary requirements being met.
Bulgaria faces an education crisis, with 53% of students failing functional literacy and lagging three years behind in STEM compared to EU peers. The gap within Bulgaria shows that students from low-income backgrounds are a further three years behind. While many schools already have STEM centers, many remain underutilized. Teachers, focused on heavy curricula and lacking training in interdisciplinary lessons, struggle to use these spaces effectively for engaging, competency-based learning.
With this project, Teach For Bulgaria will develop a ready-to-use STEM curriculum for multiple grade levels that will be available to teachers nationwide. We will also train and equip 500+ teachers with the tools to deliver engaging STEM lessons, by focusing on hands-on, project-based work that sparks students' curiosity. This will bridge learning gaps, boost student engagement, and make STEM education more accessible across all schools.
Engaging STEM education helps students develop key skills, such as critical thinking, problem-solving, adaptability, and making logical connections. With well-equipped teachers using interdisciplinary, hands-on methods, students will better grasp complex concepts, leading to improved learning outcomes, especially in underprivileged children. As schools adopt this approach, education will become more effective and inclusive, empowering the next generation to thrive in a rapidly evolving world.
