With the onset of the full-scale war, thousands of Ukrainians were left without a home. To help these people find refuge, the Tvoya Opora Charitable Foundation established the Shelter for internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Lviv in March 2022. This place became not only temporary housing but also a space of care, recovery, and support.
From March 2022 to December 2024, the Shelter provided refuge to 6,605 people, including 2,267 children. Each month, between 120 and 223 individuals found temporary accommodation here. The majority came from Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk regions. We provided them with all essential needs: hot meals, clean water, hygiene products, and household services. Over two years (2023–2024), we distributed more than 40,000 portions of meals, 29,000 liters of water, 628 kilograms of cookies, and 167 kilograms of coffee. Additionally, nearly 1,700 kilograms of laundry were washed.
However, our goal extended beyond meeting basic needs. We aimed to help people recover emotionally, adapt to new living conditions, and regain hope for the future. Special attention was given to psychological support. From July 2023 to December 2024, 306 individuals underwent an initial psychological assessment, including 198 adults and 108 children. A total of 162 people received individual counseling, while over 1,400 participated in art therapy sessions.
To support integration into a new environment, we organized 45 Ukrainian language lessons for adults and 58 for children. We also conducted classes on Ukrainian history, physical activity, and financial literacy. For children, we arranged 75 entertainment events, helping them rediscover the joy of life. Additionally, we organized seven excursions for 229 participants to Tustan, Kamianets-Podilskyi, and the Domazhyr Zoo.
Another crucial aspect of our work was facilitating employment for IDPs. Throughout 2023–2024, we helped around 200 people find jobs, many of whom secured positions in construction, service, and cleaning industries.
Your contributions enabled us to provide essential resources and help thousands of people feel safe.
We are sincerely grateful to everyone who joined this important mission. Your donations were more than just financial support — they were a gesture of humanity, proving that even in the darkest times, the light of kindness can change lives.
Following humanitarian standards and responding to people’s needs, we realized that continuing to provide psychosocial services would be the most effective solution. Therefore, we have relocated and transformed this project into a full-scale psychosocial support initiative for IDPs in Vorzel, now operating without residential accommodation.
The Shelter project, in its current form, is coming to an end, but our work in supporting IDPs continues.
With respect and gratitude,
The Tvoya Opora Team
