This project to replace our 17-year-old vehicle will assure safe transportation for over 150 orphans and staff to medical appointments, boarding schools, and errands for supplies. Currently, nearly every trip incurs a breakdown in rural and dangerous areas.
Our vehicle is constantly breaking down, resulting in unsafe conditions for our children and a constant drain on our funds for general operations. A vehicle is a lifeline we use to obtain food, medical care, and other necessities that the children depend upon. The reality is that, although we can raise some funds for this purchase, we will be unable to afford a vehicle without assistance. .So far we have $3,000 set aside toward a good used car but a car even five years old is nearly $25,000
Hearth to Hearth Ministries provides a loving home and education to 150 orphans who were at risk for starvation and abuse until they graduate from Secondary or Technical school. Shopping for supplies with such a large family requires many trips over terrible roads a month with the only alternative transportation on motorbike or Matatu, unsafe during COVID. The vehicle is also used for community outreach, helping serve the poorest county in all of Kenya, Homa Bay.
The $1600 just spent on repairs would pay our teachers' salaries for a month, pay two secondary students boarding fees or add two 5000 gallon water tanks. It could finance bringing more endangered children into our home from a waiting list of over 50; currently, our administrators are unable to travel to investigate cases of neglected and abused children who qualify for residence. We keep pouring funds into a car that has outlived its usefulness that should be used to save more children.
