Fund a mobile school to provide education in India

Hello all!!

So some progressive news here at Basti Ram. We have just finished applying for the Comic Relief international grants: Street and Working Children and Young People's programme. This grant is focusing on the project with the boys from the destitute home and supporting and guiding them with skills, knowledge and time to find decent employment for when they leave the home.

So what does this mean to you and your donation? 

The project we have designed involves a lot of planning and effort. The money raised is an amazing achievement and we are so grateful for the support. By also receiving the grant we would be able to give more to the boys - by the way of teachers to train the boys on specific skills, arrange events with the local communities to publicise the work we are doing and to network with local orgs and businesses to help set up links for the boys. This is something that would not be achievable with the donations - your support has enabled us to offer to Comic Relief what we can provide to this project!

We would like to start by thanking the generous donors who have contributed toward this project since our last project update in 2011. 

We are gradually getting closer to reaching our target and are in the process of planning a fundraising event to help us achieve our goal of designing, building and launching the mobile school by the end of 2012.  In addition to our forthcoming fundraising event we continue to ensure that a proportion of every volunteers project fee (£25) is directly donated to this project.  We remain committed to this project and cannot over emphasise the difference that this school will make toward the communities that live in areas to which we will travel.  We invite all those interested in our project to view one of our project videos, produced by a former volunteer the video gives an excellent introduction to the profile of the communities to which our work is dedicated.
