By Amita Seth | Founder, Pawsitive Sanctuary
With over 400 dogs, many of which are victims of brutal cruelty, living on less than half an acre, safety and space have become urgent needs. Our sanctuary had been forced to turn away new rescues, even in the most heartbreaking cases, due to a lack of resources.
Thanks to your generous support, we were able to take meaningful first steps toward expanding and securing Pawsitive Sanctuary. During this reporting period, we raised approximately $811 CAD, which was directed toward the initial construction of the boundary wall for our sanctuary expansion. This wall is a critical foundation for creating safe, accessible spaces for our 400+ resident dogs, including 165 paralyzed dogs who rely on wheelchairs, and for allowing future infrastructure like treatment and recovery areas to be built safely.
The funds were used directly for construction materials and labor. Approximately $539 was spent on bricks and $272 on packs of cement and binding materials. While this funding covered only a portion of the overall wall, it allowed us to begin construction and make visible progress toward relieving overcrowding and improving safety within the sanctuary. The attached photos show the wall actively being built and materials in use on site.
We didn't want to stop at just dogs, this new space would also allow us to treat stray cats and horses, providing love and safety for all animals. Every step forward matters for animals who arrive to us after severe injuries, including daily hit-and-run cases.
We still have a long way to go, but this initial progress brings us closer to creating open, secure areas where all of our residents, even the most injured ones, can safely roll, play, and rehabilitate, and where future x-ray and treatment rooms can operate effectively. We are deeply grateful to our GlobalGiving donors for helping us lay the groundwork, quite literally, for a more humane, sustainable future for the many lives who depend on Pawsitive Sanctuary.
