Since our founding in 2020, we have worked tirelessly to transform the lives of Amritsar, Punjab, India's most vulnerable street animals through medical care, rehabilitation, and compassionate, lifelong support. With an estimated 65,000 stray dogs roaming the streets of Amritsar, the need for our work is both urgent and immense. Every day, countless animals suffer from neglect, malnutrition, disease, and injuries caused by accidents or cruelty. Our mission is to address this crisis through both direct rescue and long-term prevention. Our Core Mission We are committed to reducing the stray dog and cat population through a robust spay and neuter program, having already sterilized over 2,000 animals in 2024. This not only curbs the cycle of overpopulation but also improves the health and safety of communities. Alongside prevention, we ensure that every animal we rescue (whether sick, injured, or paralyzed) receives the medical attention, rehabilitation, and love they deserve. The Heart Behind the Sanctuary Brought up in Canada, our founder, Amita Seth, returned to her hometown in India in 2019, where she was deeply moved by the suffering she witnessed among stray animals. Inspired by compassion and fueled by determination, she established Pawsitive Sanctuary as a place where the most vulnerable could find safety, healing, and hope. Her courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication have been the backbone of our growth and impact. Over 5 years, our team has expanded to 35 staff members. What We Do 1. Ongoing Rehabilitation & Love Healing does not end with medical treatment. We provide continuous rehabilitation and emotional support, helping animals regain their confidence and experience a better quality of life. Every animal is treated with patience, kindness, and respect, ensuring they feel secure and loved. 2. Physiotherapy & Mobility Support For paralyzed dogs, we offer custom wheelchairs and a dedicated space where they can thrive. Blind dogs, who cannot survive on the streets, are given a safe environment and attentive care. Our physiotherapist works closely with each animal to support mobility, relieve pain, and promote overall well-being through specialized therapy. 3. Free On-Road Treatment Our compassionate team delivers life-saving treatment directly on the streets for injured and sick animals. Through our OPD (Outpatient Department), we respond to urgent cases (often victims of road accidents or cruelty) providing them with immediate medical intervention and a second chance at life. Our Vision for the Future We envision a community where no animal suffers needlessly, where the streets are safer, and where compassion guides the way people coexist with animals. Our goal is to expand our reach, increase the number of animals we sterilize each year, and build the resources to treat and shelter even more of Amritsar's strays. Our Impact So Far 2,000+ dogs spayed or neutered in 2024 alone, significantly reducing future suffering. Hundreds of injured and sick animals rescued, treated, and rehabilitated. A dedicated sanctuary space where paralyzed, blind, and otherwise vulnerable animals can live with dignity. Consistent community outreach, raising awareness about humane animal care. Why We Exist The reality is that without intervention, countless stray animals will continue to face injury, disease, and starvation. At Pawsitive Sanctuary, we believe every animal's life has value. Through medical treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing love, we restore not just their health... but their trust in humans.
