Launching during Hispanic Heritage Month, 'A Fair Shot' will kick off in 2020 with a mobile response unit that will aid immigrant communities in Los Angeles, Houston and Chicago. The mobile response unit, an Airstream trailer staffed and supported by WAAH and LULAC volunteers, will provide essentials, including personal care items and household supplies, supporting the citizenship journey.
We started seeing company shutdowns and furloughs as COVID cases increased sharply. It was very clear that people were urgently looking for assistance to cover essential items and to keep a pantry stocked. Essential workers make up almost half, or 48.3 percent of all employed immigrant workers in the country. These essential jobs are also some of the most at-risk jobs there are-and many are disproportionately held by immigrants. Extra costs to cover medication, food and water are a burden on
By working with partners and local councils, we will engage our network around the country to help with recruitment, outreach, and distribution of essential resources for individuals and families in need. By providing immediate assistance with food and household supplies and essentials, we will meet the immediate needs of feeding families and keep families healthy.
The project will provide household essentials and food staples to improve the condition of immigrant and low-income families around the country by addressing individuals and promote hygiene, nutritional health, and well-being.
