Imagine spending a Christmas with out basic essentials like bread or sugar. Simple things, like toothpaste & shampoo are considered a luxury, especially when putting food on the table is a challenge. This Christmas YOU can change this for an Ecuadorian family. Your gift of a Christmas "Canasta" full of staples such as lentils, rice, beans and toilet paper or the gift of Candy Bags for children, (or both!) will ensure there are many relieved sighs and grateful smiles this Holiday season
In Ecuador, over 21% of the population lives in poverty, with this reality being felt even more significantly during the holiday season. Most families struggle to provide even basic food staples to feed their families, making many items such as shampoo, dish soap and laundry detergent a forfeited luxury.
Our aim is two fold: to give as many families a Christmas Canasta, and as many children as possible candy bags. By providing essential family food stables such as sugar, rice and beans and basic hygiene staples for the month such as shampoo and toothpaste, families will enjoy a brighter holiday season, while their children will receive a small gift bag to mark the season.
The project will ensure families & children have their basic needs met for Christmas so that the family can enjoy a little extra monthly income to put towards other needs such as school costs or the purchasing of proteins & other perishable food. The long term goal is to have sponsors sign up for a monthly Canesta so families can be supported year round with these essentials. This will allow the family to begin breaking the cycle of poverty and use the extra income for other house expenses
