We do whatever it takes to make sure that our girls grow into happy, healthy and productive adults. For some of them we realize that a college, or even high school education is not in the cards. Our vocational training program helps older girls (ages 15-19) learn a craft or trade that will lead to gainful employment in their community.
While we do everything we can to make sure that our girls stay in school, we also recognize that higher education is not the right path for everyone. We work with each girl individually so that she can discover what is best for her future. We currently have girls training in retail, tourism, agriculture, sewing and craft-making and cosmetology. Vocational training builds confidence and hones in on individual skills that will make them successful in the current environment.
We provide access to mentors, apprenticeships, transportation, career counseling, materials and more. Once a Mariposa girl graduates 8th grade we work with them to put together a development plan that will help them make smart choices for their future. This is especially important for girls that are not high school or college bound as this ensures that they do not lose hope and stay on track to becoming a productive, income earning adult and not repeat the cycle of poverty.
Investing in the education, health and empowerment of a girl today means that she will have the tools to make smart choices that will better the lives of her children in the future. This program invests in girls ages 15-20, a critical age in which many girls drop out of school, get pregnant and give up on themselves and their future. Vocational training, support and planning will help them choose a different path.
