Project Report | Nov 1, 2019
First Report of 2019

By Jan Li Wang | President

Although the creature is about to rest in winter’s time, TDTB is still actively preparing for vocational training of visually impaired people. With your support, we not only prepare the instructional materials but also find suitable cases for vocational training through various activities and related visually impaired NPO. At the same time, we give individual computer training for the case in need. From June to October 2019, major activities/events in TDTB are listed as follows:

1. Instructional materials preparation

This vocational training focuses on the Microsoft Office suites, enabling visually impaired people to acquire computer capabilities and use them to handle work matters. We already have instructional materials for Microsoft Word and Excel with the NVDA screen reading software. This year we continue to write Microsoft PowerPoint with NVDA teaching material so that visually impaired people can have all learning materials for non-visual operation computers and get out of the obstacles and learn the independent living ability.

2. Admission instructions

We hosted two rehabilitation experience sharings on Jul 27 and Sep 28, as well as 10 support groups. The participants will not only benefit from their sharing of overcoming visual disabilities but also reinstate the will to live independently. In addition, through the process of support group activities, we try to identify potential cases and explain the vocational training process and how to return to the workplace so that more visually impaired people may have the opportunity to return to the original workplace.

3. Visually impaired NPO promotion

In order to enable more visually impaired people to understand the methods and expected results of our vocational training, from July to September, we contacted most of the universities and local employment services to reach relevant visually impaired NPOs, such as Taipei's visually impaired quality and welfare promotion association. We will try to use any channel to reach the target audience to attract more visually impaired people to return to the workplace through vocational training.

4. Tailored-made services

Before the commencement of the vocational training courses, we have provided tailored-made computer skill services for 6 visually impaired based on different employment needs, so that each case can learn to use NVDA and different Microsoft Office software according to its own capabilities and future job needs.
