Hi,I hope you are enjoying your day today!
Thank you so much for your generous donations towards training the community in Uganda to make their own sanitary pads, the training attracted 80 participants (men, women, girls and boys).
We conducted this training with partnership with other stake holders who also facilitated in transporting facilitators, accomodating them, etc.
A pre-test exercise was conducted to ascertain the level of understanding of menstruation concerns by show of hands, and below were the out comes
The pre-test exercise showed a big gap that men and boys are not involved in menstruation management, and few girls that can access facilities needed in menstruation management
The making of re-usable homemade sanitary pads is one of the major resolutions that have been reached on; it is a strategy that equips communities to start making their own sanitary pads, which even lasts for 12 months.
This strategy will help reducing risks the girl child goes through during her menstruation.
It will also turn into an income generating activity for those who will be having the skills of making the sanitary pads
The strategy turns to be a best practice that will allow a spillover to communities who will copy the practice
I conducted a little interview with some of the participants and this is what they had to say"
James: What’s your name, and where do you live?
Birazake: My name is Birazake I live in Maliba, am a mother of 6.
James: What do you do for a living?
Birazake: Am a tailor and a farmer but I do farming on a small scale just for food at home.
James: How much money do you make per day worked?
Birazake: 20,000 shillings, $5
James: Now that you have learnt how to make sanitary pads, what next?
Birazake: Am going to make this my job so that everybody around Maliba will know that its only me who makes reusable pads, am going to supply all schools around.
