By Grace Marfo | Teen Girls Club Officer
Mercy lives in a village called Bedabour in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region. Mercy attended both Primary and Junior High School (JHS) in Bedabour and enjoyed studying home economics. She joined the Teen Girls Club and learned how to design beads on slippers from on the trainings organized by Self-Help International. With assistance from her mother, who was also part of the micro-credit training, she was able to perfect her skills. She now helps her elder brother and uncle who are professional cobblers. Mercy adds value to the shoes and slippers her brother produces, by using beads to create different designs on them. The skills training she took from SHI has helped create a new income source for her. She credits the program for her success.
