Our organization need to buy a new vehicle. After hurricane Maria impact our maintenance & repair expenses to our 2006 Dodge Caravan (mileage 134,055) and 2002 Ford Econline (mileage 112,400) have increased. They are used to distribute meals at the elderly participant homes, take them to medical appointments, pharmacy and/or to the grocery store. They are used to go to other offices in our town, also to San Juan or Ponce, over 65 miles (104 km) away for trainings, meetings, etc.
With actual vehicles our driver and passengers are not safe while doing their tasks. Maintenance and repair expenses are frequent, vehicles have parts and aesthetic problems, driver fears a breakdown while in duties. After two hurricanes hit Puerto Rico in September 2017 there are less donors and volunteers because of their individual situations. For 2018 grant donations have been decreased and many services will be impacted. Our organization don't have enough money to buy a new vehicle.
Contributions will help us purchase a new vehicle. Maintenance and repair expenses will be reduced. Driver and participants can be relax being in a safe vehicle. Personnel can be more productive with their tasks instead of bringing the actual vehicles back and forth to the mechanic or rescheduling activities.
A new vehicle will help us to provide the elderly a better transportation service because the vehicle will be in good condition. Our personnel will be in time for meetings, trainings or to deliver and pick up documents locally or in places that are far from our community. With donations for a new vehicle our elderly services will continue normally.
