Elders comprise over 32% of the population in our low-income community. We provide services to people over 60 years old, who live alone, who do not have someone to take care of them and/or who have chronic health problems. Lunch is distributed on weekends and holidays to the homes of 61 elders in the community and nearby areas. Follow-up on their medical conditions is made by a registered nurse, and transportation to their medical appointments is provided in some cases.
Elders are fragile, for most of them their productive life has ended and they feel that they are no longer loved or needed. They do not have enough income to buy food, for their medicines or they do not have someone who can drive them to their medical appointments. Some of them have physical limitations and cannot prepare their meals. Elders are often neglected, there is a lack of understanding in the society, and their needs are often ignored.
Your contribution will help us provide the elders meals, transportation and kitchen expenses (gas, kitchen utensils and maintenance). Help should be offered for those who cannot pay full price for medicines. We will be able to buy some medical equipment for the handicap. Family members will be oriented on the elders' needs by a nurse. Donations will help to cover part of the cook and driver's salary. In this way, elders can feel that they are not alone, that someone cares.
Elders will improve their health through orientations and follow-up. They will improve their self-esteem as they will feel that someone is providing for their needs. With donations, better services can be provided and benefits will be able to more elders.
