Amun Shea School is an innovative rural education model with more than 15 years of experience. With your help, we will implement a module with 100 chickens so that 62 students from Amun Shea School will learn good agroecological practices and replicate it with different schools in northern El Salvador.
The excessive use of chemicals in agricultural and poultry production in El Salvador raises concerns about their effects on human health and the environment. In poultry production, chemicals are common for disease control and disinfection, creating a dependency that affects consumers' and producers' health. How can we foster research, learning, and the adoption of agroecological solutions that promote a healthier and more sustainable future for El Salvador?
This phase will begin with the development of a module where 5 students and 2 teachers will lead the agroecological learning process. Funds will be used to purchase 100 chickens, feed concentrate, rice husks, and ingredients to make natural vaccines such as cough syrup, antibiotics, diarrhea preparations, and the curarin-based vaccine. This phase will allow 62 students from Amun Shea to learn about this practice and be able to reach the second phase of replicating it with neighboring schools.
Rural education seeks to provide students with the tools to overcome socioeconomic obstacles and develop useful skills for their communities. Through agroecological education, students will be able to replicate their results and best practices with various community groups, schools, universities, and local agricultural producers. Thus, reducing chemical use and supporting producers in rural El Salvador. They will be the future scientists and innovators of a brighter El Salvador.
