'Low-quality,' 'painfully underresourced,' and 'hopeless' are words commonly used to describe rural schools in El Salvador. Poor infrastructure and low student performance plague the Salvadoran school system. For example, only 7% of sixth-grade students meet the minimum performance standard in math. With more than 70% of schools considered rural in El Salvador, our work at Perkin Educational Opportunities Foundation, Inc. is critical, with Amun Shea School as a transformative model for all.

Solution

Amun Shea School is a full-day, high-quality educational program that provides students (ages 5+) with the skills and tools to become #changemakers for their families and communities. Through Amun Shea School's commitment to climate action and land stewardship, innovative entrepreneurship, and relevant technical training, we reimagine what rural education can be and will directly transform the educational system for a brighter and more peaceful El Salvador.
