Thank you so much for your support of our six raptor birds! Although we didn't quite meet the funding goal, we raised enough to sponsor their food and care for the rest of the year and we will continue fundraising for 2017!
All of our raptors are at DAKTARI because they can no longer fly. This means that they could not hunt for their food in the wild and would die. At DAKTARI they can live a comfortable life, while providing education to the local children.
Our biggest excitement has been that we cared for an African Harrier Hawk (or Gymnogene) for several weeks. He was found by our neighbors on the side of the road. He seemed injured and so they took him to the vet before bringing him to DAKTARI to recover. After just a couple of weeks, he was flying and showing signs that he could hunt on his own. We decided to release him by DAKTARI's watering hole. He immediately flew off and found himself a new home. A happy ending to his story.
If you are interested in updates about our permanent resident raptors you can always contact us or sign up for our monthly newsletter!
To continue supporting the eagles and owls, and other animals at DAKTARI, consider giving to our larger project on GlobalGiving here.
Project reports on GlobalGiving are posted directly to globalgiving.org by Project Leaders as they are completed, generally every 3-4 months. To protect the integrity of these documents, GlobalGiving does not alter them; therefore you may find some language or formatting issues.
If you donate to this project or have donated to this project, you can recieve an email when this project posts a report. You can also subscribe for reports without donating.
