Your donations will support 500 asylum seekers in Katsikas, Greece to create or repair crucial items they need in their daily lives in times of a pandemic. Whether it is repairing their bikes for independent transportation, sewing their own reusable mask or building items which will help improve their living conditions. This is even more crucial given that resources accessible to refugees are becoming more scarce with COVID-19 restriction that disproportionately affect the refugee community.
There are 3355 asylum-seekers in Northern Greece and 1200 in Katsikas camp. They have limited access to education, employment and dignified living conditions. COVID-19 restrictions have led to delays in asylum appointments, asylum services and increased scarcity of items required to fulfill people's basic needs. Additionally, asylum seekers experience disproportionate restrictions compared to locals. Now, more than ever, there is a need for solidarity and support for the refugee community.
Habibi.Works will continue to offer the platform for people to create solutions they need during this pandemic in 10 working areas including a wood workshop, textile atelier, MediaLab and more. Refugees and locals repair what is broken and build what they need: whether it is sewing a mask, repairing their bikes to get to the city while bus services are on hold, or visiting Habibi.Works to improve their wellbeing. Your donations will enable people to access support in times of a pandemic.
This campaign will support 500 asylum seekers to become active makers of their own projects and develop their own solutions to their needs. In the long run, this will help facilitate integration into their host context as well as improve their personal physical and mental well-being during COVID-19.
