22,300 Hot Showers Provided in Tijuana
By Jazmyn Dolbin | Development Coordinator
As you know, the journey that many refugees make is arduous, and nothing feels better at the end of the day than a hot shower. Through the GlobalGiving Little by Little campaign, Carry the Future donors gave $2,231 to the Dignity in Health Center run by the Refugee Health Alliance in Tijuana, Mexico. The families served at this center are residents of a refugee camp where health and hygiene are dangerously inaccessible. Through their access to the Dignity in Health center, families can bathe, use toilets, do laundry, and enjoy a well-lit and safe space. Meeting these most basic needs contributes to better health outcomes for the people waiting for their human right to seek asylum in the US.
Through funds from Carry the Future donors and others, RHA was able to extend the Dignity in Health Center operating hours. The CTF grant directly supported the following additional hours and clients at the Refugee Health Alliance's Dignity in Health Center (approximate numbers):
- 180 hours of Dignity in Health Center use (toilets, showers, laundry)
- 22,300 individual uses
- 25 days of operation
Thank you for supporting our GlobalGiving campaign to Provide Hot Showers for Asylum Seekers in Tijuana. Because of donors like you, these refugees have access to a clean shower, hygenic kits, and safe facilities. Their journey has been made a little lighter. Together, we were able to a difference in the lives of refugees, little by little, shower by shower.
From all of us at Carry the Future, thank you for saying yes to refugees.
