This project will provide funding to Refugee Health Alliance (RHA) for hygiene kits to offer at their Dignity in Health Hygiene Center. The hygiene center offers free showers, bathrooms, and laundry to provide comfort to refugees on their journey, and to prevent social determinants of health problems. Increasing demand and cost forced the center to close part-time. Our campaign will fill the gaps in funding to enable full-time hygiene center access to asylum seekers for months to come.
RHA provides the majority of medical care for asylum-seekers and other vulnerable populations at the US-Mexico border in Tijuana, all at no cost to the community. RHA provides hygienic products and a clean place to shower for refugees to feel dignified, wash their clothes, and use the restroom amongst many other crucial resources. As a result of the increased need for refugee healthcare, RHA patient service encounters have skyrocketed to an average monthly 500 - 700 people.
The hygiene center serves 100 people every two hours, costing $10 an hour for hygiene kits of shampoo, soap, toilet paper, and other supplies. Our campaign will help to ease the financial impact of increasing need and provide funding for 250 hygiene kits to enable RHA to offer use of the hygiene center full time, allowing hundreds of people to have access to the basic need for clean water and comfort for several months.
In addition to providing hygiene kits, this campaign with Refugee Health Alliance fully aligns with Carry the Future's core values to meet unmet needs, preserve dignity for refugee families, and ensure the biggest impact through direct funding. We will continue to work with and fund future RHA projects, allowing us to assist in their efforts to preserve dignity, and directly impact the lives of individuals and families seeking refuge for as long as there is need.
