Bouha's Story

By Jacob Dolan-Bath | Project and Communications Coordinator

"My name is Bouha Akhmed. I come from a village that’s called Hamzane. From Hamzane to Agadez, you need to travel 25km. I went to elementary school in Hamzane and I was born in Hamzane April 4th, 1998.

If I did not have the chance to come to RAIN’s center, things would be difficult. First of all, my parents are poor and have no money. Even to go to first grade, I had problems with money. There is not even one of my parents that went to school.

I finished elementary school in 2010-11. I left for Tchirozerine in order to study in middle school. If I was in Tchirozerine and not in the center, I would finish the school day and find myself discouraged and tired. I would not have enough food to eat. Without the after-school tutoring, the difficult materials would be too hard. I would also be in a crowded room, messy with everyone’s things.

The problems of no electricity and water would be a problem. My parents at home have nothing and have not studied. That’s why they cannot pay for water and light. Even if they buy the best food they can it is like nothing. Without light, water and food, we cannot study.

But God has given me the chance to continue to study with the help of the center. It is because I worked hard when I was in 6th grade, the exam year (for elementary school). I have seen now that it is necessary to work hard. Maybe in the future, there will be other people [like employers] who are looking for students that have studied well with the support of the center.

At the center, I really like the afterschool tutoring. I also like the lights that we have so that we can study at night. The water is nice too, and the cleaning that we do so that our rooms and our area is free of dirt and disease. I like that we have people that encourage us and give us good advice. Those that work at the center are good and responsible and they are serious.

I want to study so that I can find a job to earn money. I want to help poor people and my poor parents. I would like to try to help resolve problems found in the villages."
