Dear Supporters,
We are thrilled to share the latest progress on Viviana's research project, "Saving Freshwater Turtles of the Amazon River," which has been made possible through your generous support. Your contributions are having a profound impact on both conservation efforts and the advancement of women scientists in Colombia.
Project Overview
Led by the dedicated herpetologist Viviana, this project focuses on the endangered Yellow-Spotted River Turtle (Podocnemis unifilis). These turtles face severe threats from poaching, egg harvesting, and habitat loss. Viviana’s work is crucial in understanding the habitat preferences and environmental factors that influence the distribution of these turtles within the ProAves El Jaguar Reserve in Mapiripán, Meta.
Key Achievements
Personal Growth and Community Impact
Viviana's journey has been as much about personal growth as it has been about scientific discovery. "Learning from the community of Mapiripán, their customs, and the vast knowledge of the local rangers has been a transformative experience," she shares. Her work is fostering a new generation of women scientists who are passionate about preserving Colombia’s rich biodiversity.
Looking Ahead
This project is not just about saving a species; it is about empowering women and communities to become stewards of their environment. The support you have provided is instrumental in driving these efforts forward.
We are deeply grateful for your commitment to this cause. Your donations are making a tangible difference in the lives of endangered wildlife and the women who are dedicated to their conservation.
To continue supporting vital research and conservation efforts in the Amazon Rainforest, we invite you to contribute to our next project: Saving Endangered Amazon Reptiles and Amphibians. Your continued support is crucial in ensuring the survival of these incredible species and the success of women-led conservation initiatives.
Thank you for being a part of this journey.
For endangered wildlife and the earth,
Emily Knudson
