Project Report | May 13, 2021
A Covid Care Centre

By RUBY KAMDIN | Director

The crisis and suffering in India goes on unabated! Hospitals, Covid Care Centres, Mortuaries, Crematoriums are all overrun and overwhelmed. The rural areas have even less opportunities and facilities than their urban counterparts to get decent medical help. It was in this backdrop that we decided to once again step up and help the communities in Anekal Taluk as we did last year. We reached out to you one more time, and once again you all opened your generous hearts and donated like never before. We will never be able to express the extent of our gratitude to you all.

OBLF immediately reached out to the local Authorities and were allotted a place to set up a FREE 50 bed oxygenated Covid Care Centre. For those poor and under-privileged communities, our free Covid Care Centre will be a haven for getting care and treatment.

The Centre became functional on 10th May, 2021, after procuring the necessary approval from the local Authorities, and getting all the equipment, furniture and medical and other supplies in place.

Since setting up and running a Covid Care Centre is not our area of expertise, we have collaborated with another NGO – Enablers United, which has experience and capacity in operating a Covid Care Center, having done so for about four months in 2020. In partnership with medical providers like Vijayashree Multispecialty Hospital and other medical organizations we have set up and started running the Covid care and oxygen stabilization center in Jigani, Anekal Bangalore. The Covid Care Centre is not a hospital but is an interim facility for Covid patients who meet the prescribed medical criteria as per defined norms to be admitted and treated until they find a bed in a Government or private facility or until they get discharged. Our attempt is to stem the loss of lives which occur due to lack of oxygen or hospital beds.

We have already finalized the location for a second CCC and hope to have that set up and functioning in the next 8-10 days.

We have also placed an order for a full Oxygen Generating plant for the local Government Hospital, in order to build capacity for the predicted 3rd wave.

Needless to say, we could never have done it without your support. On our part, we will keep working hard to alleviate the sufferings of as many as we can.
