We are currently in the process of transitioning to converting preschool into a Montessori classroom. Whilst being the most valued educational methodology in the world, the success depends on the autonomy of the children, which will be impeded by the issues of the latrines. Corner to meet the required standards for this transformative learning, we are launching the "ensure a brigther future, install safe bathrooms!" campaign for Giving Tuesday 2023.
According to data provided by the United Nations, at this point in time, there are 3.5 billion people living without access to a safe bathrooms. Batey Libertad, in the Dominican Republic, is a clear example of this reality. Only 30% of the 260 homes in the community have access to a private or public bathrooms. We currently serve 50 children between three and six years old in a house that we remodeled, but due to lack of funds we were unable to renovate the old latrines.
Due to a lack of funds, Yspaniola was only able to renovate the building resulting in the continued use of the old latrines which are now dangerously close to disrepair. This dire situation blatantly interferes with the learning of the children and even puts their health at risk. Corner to meet the required standards for this transformative learning, we are launching the "ensure a brigther future, install safe bathrooms!" campaign for Giving Tuesday 2023.
Aligning with the UN SDGs, to construct two functional cubicles for the toilets of an appropriate size. This will immediately improve the classroom environment now and for the future for our kids.
