Challenge

There are thousands of stray animals living on the streets of Dharamsala. Every month, we respond to dozens of calls to our helpline about dogs that have been hit by a car or animals suffering from severe wounds, illnesses, or disease.

Solution

Each month, the Dharamsala Animal Rescue team provides 24/7 emergency services for more than 50 injured animals and sterilizes over 80 dogs to help control the street dog population. In addition to sterilization, DAR vaccinates the animals against rabies, a deadly disease that kills nearly 40,000 Indians each year, many of them young children.

Long-Term Impact

Dharamsala Animal Rescue has saved the lives of thousands of street dogs and built community in Dharamsala and beyond through our mobile clinic. The DAR team works everyday to teach the community to treat the stray animal population as a local problem that can be managed with compassion and care.
