We are providing urgent relief and resilience support to 112 families devastated by recent floods in Namkhana and nearby villages in coastal West Bengal, India. The floods destroyed homes, crops, ponds, and livestock, leaving families without livelihoods. Women and girls face greater risks of hunger, displacement, and trafficking. This project offers lifesaving aid, safe storage for valuables and clean water, plus clothing for 475 girls, to protect dignity, health, and ultimately, survival.
Recurring cyclones and floods repeatedly destroy homes and livelihoods in coastal West Bengal. With over 85% of houses damaged and reconstruction still unfinished, families have lost vital documents, crops, ponds, and livestock. Women and girls face rising risks of trafficking and child marriage. Families urgently need safe storage for documents, clean drinking water, and protection to rebuild their lives.
The project will provide steel trunks with locks to 112 families, safeguarding essential documents, valuables, and savings. 20-litre safe drinking water systems will ensure access to clean water during floods. Extra clothing sets for 475 girls will provide essential comfort. Local women's and girls' groups will guide priorities, oversee fair distribution, and drive community-led recovery. This support enables families to rebuild homes and livelihoods.
Families will be more resilient to floods and disasters, with safeguarded assets, clean water, and support to rebuild livelihoods. Girls' education, safety, and mental health are protected, while local women's groups lead recovery and empowerment. Practical interventions like document and water storage reduce long-term vulnerability, creating a sustainable model for flood-prone communities.
