Andi is the second child of 6 siblings living in a poor neighborhood of Cipanas, West Java. Andi had to struggle to pay his own school fees in order to get an education and fulfill his family's needs. Currently, Andi works at YUM as a librarian, administrator and the computer class tutor. However, Andi's dream is to be an Information Technology Expert, which he could achieve by enrolling at university. This project will help his university fees, books and study expenses for a period of 4 years
According to a World Bank study, close to 60% of youths in Indonesia are unemployed. This situation is influenced by the difficulty to access high-quality education due to poor economic conditions. Moreover, workers in the informal sector remains high compared to developed countries. Andi's example to go to university will give hope to many young people in the community to improve their quality of life, as well as their families, and break from the cycle of poverty
Andi wishes to enroll to the Employee Class course which takes place every Saturday from 8am to 5.30 pm. This will enable him to continue working at YUM and cover his daily needs and those of his family. This project will help Andi to cover costs such as tuition fees, books, stationary and other expenses that are required in his course for a period of 4 years. Obviously, all these expenses are substantial and cannot be afforded by Andy's family
Last year, YUM succeeded in sending Erin to one of the top universities in Indonesia. Motivated by this success, we want to encourage potential youths in Cipanas to continue their studies to improve their quality of life. As a computer class tutor, administrator and librarian at YUM Cipanas, Andi has the potential to be a role model and encourage the youths that he encounters every day (around 200 youths each day) to work hard and improve their lives
