We will work with a school in the Neuse River Basin to plan, install, and take care of a rain garden on the schools campus. We will train at least 20 Students in rain garden instillation and collaboratively install one eco-friendly rain garden including instruction & materials.
This rain garden project will solve a storm water issue at a school in the Neuse River Basin. Many schools due to the amount of impervious surfaces (buildings and parking lot) are in need of storm water control measures in order to control flooding and standing water after a storm.
A rain garden is a fun and environmentally friendly way to control storm water. A rain garden instillation is a great way for kids to learn about plants, storm water, and gardening and how everything in the greater ecosystem is related and connected. Students will be able to have a direct and tangible positive impact on their local ecosystem and help solve an issue for the greater good of the school.
We strive to create the next generation of environmental stewards that will protect safe, clean water, and a love for our natural resources which are the building blocks in the foundation of vibrant local economies and healthy communities. Our vision is to foster communities where students, teachers, parents, administrators, and community members realize that engagement in real environmental problem solving is an essential component of both education and community involvement.
