Purchase Two Sewing Machines for Afghans

A microproject by Afghan Institute of Learning
Purchase Two Sewing Machines for Afghans

Summary

Sewing classes are very popular as they give women a skill they can use to earn money as well as do their own family sewing. AIL Staff maintain and repair the machines as needed. Unfortunately, some of these machines have broken beyond repair. While the women in class usually share the sewing machines, there are now more women using each machine. Providing a Learning Center with a new sewing machine will solve this problem.

Challenge

After years of repair, several of the sewing machines have reached the end of their usefulness and need to be replaced.

Solution

This project will provide AIL with the funds necessary to replace two broken sewing machines and continue to offer high quality classes in sewing and tailoring.

Long-Term Impact

Women learn to save money they would have spent on clothes to purchase a sewing machine of their own and start a small business. Course graduates sew their families' clothes, start a home-based business, and/or become sewing teachers.
