Challenge

In Ukraine there are more than 300000 blind people. 90% of them do not get physical rehabilitation; they don't have access to rehabilitation centers or accessible fitness clubs. Fitness instructors are not educated to work with the blind people. Absence of physical activities decreases their mobility and increases the chance to get injured, loose balance and loose control when navigating around.

Solution

The project will provide physical education and rehabilitation for 30 blind youth. The program will take place in Bulgaria at the accessible recreation center by the seaside. The blind participants will be provided with physical rehabilitation during 14-day program. They will learn active living under supervision of instructors and teachers. As a result, the blind youth will improve their overall health, self-confidence, and independent living. This will decrease injuries and improve mobility.

Long-Term Impact

The project will promote active living for more than 100000 blind people in Ukraine allowing them to rise out of isolation, which will provide them with independence, self-confidence and well-being in long term. The rehabilitation program will push fitness centers and studios to create accessible environment for people with disabilities. Our follow-up projects will give blind people a chamce to enjoy their right to accessible sport and recreation.
