This program will develop the community in which Human and Hope Association operates by providing more than 100 Cambodian youth with villagers with access to community initiatives for one year. Run entirely by local staff, these projects empower our community members with knowledge, skills, support and enable them to secure a sustainable future for themselves.
The causes of poverty in our communes are quite simply, a lack of education and training. When the villagers are not skilled, their job opportunities are limited, hence they end up working as rice farmers, begging, etc. There are many underlying issues associated with a lack of skills including hygiene issues, domestic violence, poor nutrition and bad behavior. Our community programs attempt to address these issues.
Our rural project supports education and empowers teachers with knowledge and resources. Our job skills workshops equip villagers with the knowledge to seek, apply for and secure employment. Our microfinance loans provide villagers with business opportunities. Our child protection workshops empower kids to stand up against abuse. Our university scholarships empowers staff with knowledge which they bring back to our organisation to ensure we provide the best services to our villagers.
"I never imagined I would have money to go to University. HHA's scholarship has made my dream come true and given me an opportunity for a better life" - Thai, 22, Scholarship Student. By providing community programs, we are investing in the future of our villagers. The short term impact will be increased knowledge and skills. The long term impact will result in our villagers having the ability to increase their income and ensure a sustainable future for their families.
