The school year in Afghanistan is well underway and as promised, we’re writing to update you on the student who received the scholarship that you helped to fund! A young boy named Hasib is attending a private school in Herat Province, thanks to your generosity.
Hasib is 12 years old and his father is employed as a driver but the family could not afford to send their son to school without aid. Because of your help, Hasib is in 6th grade this school year. Above, you can see him and some of his classmates who also received scholarships. In all, through Global Giving and other sources, we were able to provide 107 scholarships to students just like Hasib to study at private schools in Afghanistan this school year!
A staff person reported that, “the students who receive scholarships are all from poor families. Many have lost one or both parents and need to do some work part time to help their families. When they heard they had been given a scholarship they were so happy they became teary eyed. This is what one student said, “I have two sisters, my father is a drug addict and my mother goes to a neighbor to do washing and cleaning. I was not able to pay for tuition or stationary. Thank you for this great opportunity; it has changed my life.”
We’d like to thank you once again for supporting our efforts to provide a high quality education to as many students as possible.
Thank you so much for your support of our efforts to give young Afghans access to high quality education.
In addition to the primary education that many of you have funded through your generous support of our projects funding scholarships for K-12 students, we have been able to provide support to eight university students in Kabul and 15 university students in Herat. The 23 students include 7 young men and 16 young women. These students are pursuing a variety of majors including Law & Political Science, Dentistry, Dari & English Literature, Economy & Management, Radiology, Religion, Mining & Geology, History, Nursing and Computer Science. These students are among the best in their classes and are on their way towards making Afghanistan a better place for all.
The 23 students you have supported are so thankful to have the opportunity to earn university degrees. Thank you again for your support of our efforts to make education a reality for Afghan students.
