Promoting HAPPINESS through education at Protea!!
One of the biggest challenges for Protea Primary is ensuring that every learner who enters the school must be issued with new stationery and books. As Protea provides temporary safe care for children, they often have to take the books with them for the new schools when they are given a longer-term residential placement (as a new learner at the school cannot just continue working on the previous learner’s work).
As such the annual funding received by the school is not enough to cover all expenses and therefore they must rely on the generosity of the community and other donors for the additional funding in order to maintain the facilities and quality of learning. It is their aim to ensure each child who attends the school, even if for a short period of time, receives the maximum benefit from their time in the classroom.
As we move forward we hope to support Protea Primary School in a greater fundraising capacity, and would of course welcome all assistance in helping them reduce the burden caused by a lack of resources. There remains a big shortage on handbooks for learners as currently there is only one book for each grade and each language per class. In meeting the standards of the new CAPS (Curriculum Assessment Police Statements) Curriculum in South Africa, over $1000 would be needed for each grade at the school to provide the full set of books that would be needed. This is a tall order but we always remain optimistic about what can be achieved with the right level of support behind us!
However for this campaign we were focused on stationery supplies, and through this micro-project a total amount of $565 dollars was raised. Whilst we may not have met our full target, it gives the school a much needed boost in fulfilling their stationery requirements. As we mark Human Rights Day in South Africa, we thank each donor for providing many disadvantaged children with an opportunity to ensure their right to education is not taken away from them.
We are so very grateful to the micro-project program for allowing us to extend our reach, and making a direct difference! Please do not hesitate to contact me ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) for further information on how you can still support this cause. It is one we believe in strongly and we are so glad we are able to start giving our secondary project the generosity it deserves!
