It is important that the babies and young children are not exposed for too long to the blazing sun. We are on the equator which means the sun is very bright. For their health, Vitamin D levels, and welbeing, it is important that they have the opportunity to play outside in the shade where it is slightly cooler. Uganda also has rainy seasons! In this period it can be dry one minute and the next minute torrential rain fall. Under with canopy the children can play sheltered from the elements.
The centre provides temporary care for abandoned babies and young children up to five years. We aim to provide holistic care for each child. The canopy will provide shelter from the sun and rain so that they can play and relax outside. Uganda has more than two million orphaned and homeless children. The babies on the streets are in danger of illness, disease, malnutrition and human trafficking.
It will allow them to be able play outside, sheltering from the sun if it is very hot,or the rain if it is wet. It is important that young children can learn to play and explore the outside and to be able to relax. It will be a place where they can sit at the picnic table and enjoy being outside like "normal families".
Nafasi Welfare Centre will help reduce the numbers of abandoned babies and infants on the streets of Uganda. We can support 20 children at a time, so there is a constant turnover of children receiving help. Approximately 30 children a year are resettled, followed up and supported where necessary. Our Community Support Programme helps young mothers rebuild their lives and through the training and guidance provided. They will be able to interact with their child in a relaxed environment.
