Dear Friend of WRC,

Thank you so much for your support of our new Child Care Centre and Safe Space for women in Siem Reap. The construction of the centre is going well with Phase 1 completed. Phase 1 was the prepping of the space, moving the office upstairs, drawing up plans and taking down any walls that needed to be removed ahead of Phase 2. Phase 2 began with collaborative workshops with the staff who use the space on a daily basis who could support us in the design of the space to ensure it would be of maximum use and functionality. This second phase is almost complete with the building work to turn the space into a safe and useable space for the women we work with and their children to relax, play and learn here as they are cared for in the child care centre.

There have been some delays to Phase 2 of the project, as the number of children coming with mothers to the workshops has been at an all time high. We are delighted that mums want to bring their children with them, and that we can provide child care thus removing any barriers to these women attending. However, with around 7 children in attendance per workshop we have had to ask the construction crew to secure the site and not build on these days as the children’s safety must be paramount. Despite these delays Phase 2 is nearly complete. We have attached some photos of the current progress for you to enjoy below.

We will soon be moving into Phases 3 and 4 – where your funds will be put to good use. Phase 3 will be to add to the space anything we need to ensure the children are comfortable – from floor mats to educational toys, books and shelves to store them. Phase 4 will be to employ and train staff, market the center and recruit families to attend and to open our doors – which we will be very excited to do! We estimate in total that these next two phases will cost approximately $36,000 and are still fundraising in order to take our next steps. We look forward to sharing more with you as we progress and would like to thank you for your support in getting this project off the ground!

Thank you so much for making a safe space for women and children possible in Siem Reap.
