Children's Helpers Worldwide works in partnership with organisations helping disadvantaged children and youth in their local communities. We work with organisations in 5 countries (Argentina, China, Ghana, Romania and South Africa) and fundraise for their programmes. As a small charity, we do not always have the resources to respond quickly. The needs have grown steeply and suddenly since the pandemic started. This project will make it possible to respond quickly to the children's needs.
Since the pandemic and lockdowns around the world started, CHW experienced a sudden and steep rise in the appeals for help. There are the needs we are responding to: 1. Extra assistance for organisations offering shelter to children; 2. New programmes helping with food and other basic needs; 3. Resources for adapting education programmes; 4. Sponsoring of items and equipment needed to safely reopen schools and education centres. This project will help us to respond more quickly and effectively.
At this time, it is harder to find support. The pandemic and lockdowns have affected everyone. However, the needs have been increasing this year. Some of our partner organisations are providing food for growing numbers of children and families. Others are turning to us as a "socially distanced" way to fundraise, as they can no longer hold events. We want to be able to assist, but we need to have the resources to do that. With your help, it will be possible to continue to serve the children.
This project will allow us to support new food programmes that were set up in response to the increase in poverty caused by the lockdowns. We have been assisting with food in Ghana, Romania and South Africa. We will also be able to continue to assist organisations in Argentina and Romania with the shelter they offer to children and to help education projects in China, Ghana and South Africa. This will ensure the children are healthy, safe and can go to school, despite all the challenges.
