The COVID19 (Coronavirus) outbreak has impacted some more than others. With the global pandemic hitting India, our community people have been affected in more than innumerable ways. The government has advised the people to observe social distancing which means most of the crowded areas like markets and other business areas have had to shut operations. Since most of the Waghri and Sikhligars community livelihoods depend on selling clothes and selling utensils or vegetables within these markets, their financial status has taken a severe decline.

Ration Distribution

A survey of the communities was done in firstweek of March to find out which families require nutrition support.Based on that Ashraya distributed food ration to !09 families in the third week of March, for a month in order to support them in these challenging times. We supplied them with one month of Wheat Flour, Rice, Dal, Sugar, Oil, and Tea. The Ashraya team additionally worked with health workers, social workers, police and other officials to take neccessary permitions  to conduct these activities with ease precaution and ease. Ashraya has conducted 8 ration distribution since March which equals 1081 food packets for 109 families. This has impacted 655 community members icluding 307 children.

Staff Safety

Ashraya has provided necessary preventive kits for our staff before they were involved in any of the distribution activities. Masks, Handwash and sanitizers were provided with awareness around the same.

Awareness

Awareness was created in the community with the support from our community workers to make sure all the community members are following social distancing, washing hands, wearing masks, are aware of symptoms of corona virus and are keeping themselves and their family away from rumors.

Health

Ashraya extended their support in the area of health from children to family members in the last one month. If there are any health issues in the community, the members inform the Asha workers who connect them with our Health Coordinator, who helps them with doctor consultations. All the community members are accessing health consultants and medicines for free to support them. Every day on an average, 12 patients from the community have started to reach out to Ashraya team and doctors. The community people are aware of whom to approach and what protocol to follow in case of a medical emergency during thisperiod.
