The EFA boarding houses give vital access to education for 250 teenage girls from remote villages who would otherwise not reach the schools. Accessing education means they can avoid the pressures of early marriage and end the cycle of illiteracy for girls in their region. To keep all 6 houses running efficiently, we occasionally need to buy/replace/fix things. This project will cover the cost to buy & install a solar water heater in a house for 50 girls- for all the hot showers and dishwashing!
One of our solar water heating units stopped working and so we need to replace it with a new one. In a house with accommodates 50 girls and 4 staff members, you can imagine how many clothes, dishes and bodies need to be washed every day! If one of the units breaks, we cannot produce enough water for our daily needs.
Our boarding houses are in a region which is very cold however it is also very sunny! That means we can use solar water heaters which give us plenty of hot water and takes care of the environment. By replacing one of the units- which costs 2300 Euros ($2800) - including transport and installation costs- we can keep the houses running efficiently and comfortably.
The EFA houses are a lifeline for 250 girls who would otherwise not be able to access school. Our houses offer cosy beds, hot showers, nutritious food, libraries, computers and support to the girls, giving them the best chance to succeed in their studies. Ensuring the houses are well-equipped and well maintained is important to us so that the girls can focus on their studies and developing their talents and potential in life.
