Dear Friends,
We are thrilled to update you on the success of our surfing and water sports program! In April, 17 Mariposa girls took part in a 20 hour training in first aid, CPR and open water life saving. The girls assisted the professional lifeguards on the beach during the easter holiday week here in Cabarete. This important training will help keep them safe in the water and how to help others in trouble.
For two weeks in July, 21 of our girls will participate in an intensive surfing program. 10 of the girls have already learned how to ride the waves and soon, we'll be adding 11 new students to the group! Thanks to your generous donation and the help of Salty Surf Culture, we were able to get some great boards at a huge discount. We also have some amazing volunteers and staff members that will be teaching the program this summer.
Cabarete is a small, beach town where learning water sports can lead to job opportunities as well as help girls build confidence and feel more like a part of their own community. Thank you for helping our girls learn to surf!
With gratitude,
The surfer girls at The Mariposa DR Foundation
