$4,000 dollars will help us to upgrade our kitchen with a full stove, a refrigerator and a freezer! This will allow us to provide our girls with a daily breakfast and an afternoon snack, to ensure that they are ready for their classes and all of their activities.
While the Dominican Republic is home to wonderful fruits and vegetables, many Dominican families unfortunately do not use them in their daily diet. $4,000 dollars will help us to upgrade our kitchen with a full stove, a refrigerator, and a freezer allowing us to add a larger variety of healthy fruits and vegetables. With programming that involves a combination of classroom time and sports, providing breakfast and an afternoon snack is a vital part of our organization.
A fully functioning kitchen will allow us to work with the Mariposas in various ways to address issues of diet and nutrition. Being able to use the kitchen space to teach our Mariposas healthy, affordable options will then allow them to bring these skills back to their own families. Thus their families will also be able to engage in healthier cooking options!
The Mariposa Center for Girls will become self-sustaining by hosting student groups and service trips and providing job opportunities for girls where they can earn an income and generate revenue for the upkeep of the center. It will drastically change the lives of girls in our community for generations to come and we will have a global impact.
