Quality self leadership and leadership of others is a skill sadly lacking in South Africa. We want to take our youth leaders camping to learn leadership skills such as communication, team building, problem solving and negotiation in a structured environment so they can return to their groups and put into practice all they have learnt. We need strong, effective and gracious leaders for the future, help us to build them today for tomorrow.
Leadership is a learnt skill which is sadly lacking. The children we serve need to have mastery over themselves but also work together as teams to bring about the changes they want to see in their communities. Through training young people as peer leaders we will positively influence the youth today and assist in reducing issues such as teenage pregnancy, HIV infection, crime, drug and alcohol abuse. By having self-mastery they will also be able to assist others in overcoming these common issues
We want to take 50 children out of their environments and spend 5 days developing their leadership skills and capacity through an intensive training program. Then once completed, they will go back to their groups in their communities as leaders of small groups working together with 3 or 4 other small groups in their villages. They will be able to actively work together and put in to practice the skills learnt. This will build resilience, determination and perseverance.
We will continue to see our long term effects of decreased teenage pregnancy, decreased suicide rate, decreased crime, drug and alcohol usage, increased self esteem and personal mastery over situations. We also will continue to grow and service more villages because we will have the children and youth with the skills necessary to help in other areas. By taking just 50 children to camp we can affect over 500 other children directly through skills transfer, 50 families will be directly impacted
