Laurita needs your help to complete a Bachelors Degree in Education on-line. An intelligent and capable young woman, who happens to be Deaf, Laurita requires the assistance of an interpreter/translator to help make course material in Spanish more understandable in her first language, Mexican Sign Language. Upon graduating, she will fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher at EEESMA, the career opportunity she deserves, and, most importantly, the ability to help others, who like her, are Deaf.
Laurita has always dreamed of pursuing a university education but the opportunity was not available for many reasons, including: -The only university close by, in Queretaro, that offered university classes to Deaf individuals closed the program last year. -Attending an oral, in-class university program would require a full time translator/interpreter to accompany her to class, a cost far greater than her family could afford, even if one could be contracted locally.
Laurita's family approached EEESMA for help to fund on-line classes through the well established and reputable Utel University. Besides needing financial support for the monthly fees, they knew Laurita's best chances of success would come from daily tutoring and support from EEESMA teachers and from the translation/interpretation from oral/written Spanish to Mexican Sign Language, Laurita's first language. To hire a qualified translator/interpreter, approximately MXN$7,000 per month.
Educating Deaf children and teaching them and their families to communicate with sign language will help raise awareness, enlighten families and educate their communities about the true abilities of Deaf people. When the Deaf are able to contribute to their families financially, not only will this benefit them and their families but also the community as a whole. With the goal to enroll 50 children at EEESMA, over 500 will be positively affected,
