Kayla needs help to recover from sexual assault

A microproject by Americans Overseas Domestic Violence Crisis Center

Kayla is a study abroad student in Italy. Like many young Americans that go abroad for a semester, Kayla's experience of a lifetime turned into a nightmare when she was sexually assaulted by a student from another American university. We have been able to provide many services to Kayla and also need to raise funds to get her into counseling.

Kayla was sexually assaulted while studying abroad in Italy by a student from another American university. Our SASHAA program has helped Kayla get her emergency medical needs met and helped her navigate her law enforcement, legal and other options, and now we need to help Kayla get counseling.

With this project Kayla will be able to receive 10 counseling sessions. The sooner Kayla can receive counseling the sooner she can begin the road to recovery after her sexual assault in Italy.

Long-Term Impact

According to RAINN, 208 thousand rapes occur in the USA annually. If we apply the same population proportion to the 65 million Americans that travel overseas every year, there would be 39,000 Americans raped in foreign countries annually. From the sexual assault victims that have contacted us in various foreign countries, they are extremely grateful for our help and assistance when no one else would or could provide the services we provide to them.
