Our Child Safe Space welcomes our little friends
Designing the Child Safe Space
Dear Friend of the Irida Community,
We hope you & your loved ones are safe and sound.
Our Child Safe Space for 200 Refugee Children is open! We are beyond grateful for your invaluable support of our project, and we could not have made it without your generosity and solidarity! THANK YOU!
On the 15th of February 2022, we re-opened our Child Safe Space for children of pre-school age from 1 to 5 years old. We were very excited to welcome our little friends to a specially-designed and safe space where they are able and free to discover new things, socialize, and play together, tackling the long-term effects of trauma.
We recruited a part-time artist with expertise in using art as a tool to support children who have suffered traumatic experiences and two long-term volunteer pedagogists experienced in working with children of pre-school age.
The Child Safe Space team, with the support and guidance of our social worker, designed a program of activities, including free playing, movement sessions, recreational activities, and relaxation time.
The personnel involved with the CFS attended a capacity-building training on our safeguarding policy regarding children and a workshop facilitated by our social worker on how to approach children, establish a relationship of trust, and cultivate a caring, inclusive, and enabling atmosphere.
Finally, we created and decorated the space engaging the mothers in the process.
Since the opening, we have welcomed and supported 25 children in our Child Safe Space.
Our Child Safe Space is an integral part of our project. We ensure that refugee children find a safe space with a caring atmosphere to act and feel like children in times of crisis, continuing to play, learn, and socialize.
Thank you for embracing our mission and vision!
With Love,
Lydia Siapardani
