More than 1 in 4 women in Greece are at risk of poverty and social exclusion. At Irida, we work with these women who lack opportunities for a safe life and sustainable future for themselves and their children. Through protection, legal, psychosocial support and employability services, we ensure while working with commitment and determination that no woman is left behind.
For the last 10 years, Greece holds the last place in gender equality among the 27 EU states. More than 40% of women in Greece have experienced physical or sexual violence at least once in their lives. Violence impoverishes women, their families, communities and nations. Costs of violence against women in the EU is estimated to almost 256 billion. Gender inequality means that women are discriminated and lack access to resources which has a tremendous impact in their lives and society as a whole
We work with over 650 women in depth, providing holistic support including case management, primary protection interventions related to physical health issues, direct & indirect mental health and psychosocial support; legal aid and physical representation to the court; and employability services. We ensure that all women are supported and empowered to pursue opportunities for personal and professional development and determine the course of their lives.
Since 2019, we have supported more than 3700 women from 36 countries - and their families - to alleviate their trauma and promote their socio-economic inclusion through a series of services. In the next three years, our goal is to reach even more women through a holistic protection system aiming to strengthen their capacity, actively participate in the community, accessing resources and taking informed decisions for their lives.
