In the past six years Pathways has compiled a database of sexual assault responses, laws, resources, etc. in 100 foreign countries, and 50 foreign cities. We do not know the impact covid-19 has had on the foreign resources. We need to go back and re-vet the organizations to insure they are still operational, update any laws, policies or societal considerations especially for LGBTQ and study abroad student populations. The $4000 will cover 200 hours of time to complete updating the database.
Our sexual assault response database of 100 foreign countries and 50 foreign cities is a critical tool Pathways' utilizes to assist American victims of sexual assault abroad. Given covid-19 we must go back and vet the organizations & resources to ensure American sexual assault victims are given accurate information.
American victims of sexual assault abroad will receive accurate, up to date information on foreign resources and receive the critical care they need in the aftermath of a sexual assault overseas.
According to RAINN, 208 thousand rapes occur in the USA annually. If we apply the same population proportion to the 80 million Americans that travel overseas every year, there would be thousands of Americans raped in foreign countries annually. These victims need a confidential, anonymous portal of entry to seek assistance, and long term support as they navigate through complicated international components to overcome the worst experience of their lives.
