The education of girls is a priority for Jifundishe. For over 15 years, we have been supporting girls in schools all over Tanzania and we want to continue this work in 2025. Our Houston Scholarship Fund has supported over 160 young Tanzanians in educational endeavors and provided them with the tools for a sustainable life. Our goal this year is $20,000 for the next group of girls.
Many families living in our community are not able to support their children in school due to financial constraints and even if they are able to send kids to school, boys are given priority. Girls are often encouraged to marry at a young age which brings financial resources to a family.
Jifundishe helps young girls achieve their educational goals by providing financial and social assistance to them so that they can attend school. These girls are 100% supported by the fund which allows them to concentrate on their studies as well as attend enrichment workshops like computer training and reproductive health seminars.
Educated girls are more likely to secure jobs, which can help lift their families out of poverty. This economic empowerment can lead to improved living standards and financial independence. Improved Gender Equality in the society as education helps challenge and change traditional gender roles and stereotypes. Educated women are more likely to advocate for their rights and the rights of others, contributing to greater gender equality.
